At present, the grid-based electricity situation in South Sudan is characterized by routine power outages and lack of efficiency in the distribution system . In fact, in 2020, 580 GWh or nearly 100 % of electricity was produced from oil and gas, and just 1 GWh from renewable sources .
Most of the country's current energy production comes from generators that burn imported diesel, a costly method both economically and environmentally. According to the World Bank, only 8.4% of the population had reliable access to power and electricity in 2022, leaving the door wide open to produce much-needed renewable energy in South Sudan.
The situation in South Sudan, the world's newest country, is unique. It does not have any real existing energy infrastructure.
There is also significant demand for electricity in the rural areas with only about 1 % of the population connected to the grid. According to recent projections, in the long term, the demand for electricity in South Sudan could grow to 1400 MW by 2030.
Most of the Solar Panel exports from Malaysia go to the United States, Vietnam, and Singapore . Globally, the top three exporters of Solar Panel are China, Vietnam, and India . China leads the world in Solar Panel exports with 277,419 shipments, followed by Vietnam with 90,363 shipments, and India taking the third spot with 36,024 shipments.
According to Volza's Malaysia Export data, Malaysia exported 6,558 shipments of Solar Panel from Nov 2023 to Oct 2024 (TTM). These exports were made by 566 Malaysia Exporters to 878 Buyers, marking a growth rate of 269% compared to the preceding twelve months.
On the Malaysian economy, the extent of the impact remains to be seen. The RM12.5 billion solar PV export figure in 2024 represents 2.08% of Malaysia's total RM601.2 billion in electrical and electronics exports last year, although a number of manufacturers were enjoying tax holidays as investment incentives.
28 Oct 2024 Malaysia continues to serve as a logistics hub for solar panels amid the United States' (US) tariff hike on solar equipment from Southeast Asia, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
The lack of reliable energy supplies is a major concern for Syrian citizens and its new government, making it a key point of leverage. Qatar and Türkiye have stepped in to provide short-term assistance. The two states have provided two floating power stations, while Türkiye is also connecting its grid to Syria.
A quick outlook regarding Syria's energy resources and infrastructure, including the role of declining oil revenue under the Assad regime's governance and the prospects for, and geopolitical impact of, Syrian energy production and trade in a new era.
In the short to medium term, it should support energy generation in Syria, especially in renewable electricity. In the longer term, it should offer Syria a role in an interconnected Eastern Mediterranean energy hub with independent access to the EU market for gas and electricity.
Today, it scarcely produces 20 000 and relies on imports. Its gas sector, nascent in 2011, is almost none-existent today. The lack of reliable energy supplies is a major concern for Syrian citizens and its new government, making it a key point of leverage.
